Because of security concerns, the Statue of Liberty was closed to visitors,
so we got only as close as passing by it on the Staten Island Ferry. As
you can see, the weather wasn't so great in NYC this morning.

This is just one small stretch of fenceline near "ground zero,"
covered with hundreds of memorials to the victims of September 11th. Notice
the toy firetrucks and police cars on the curb.

One of our culinary requirements while visiting NYC was some authentic New
York pizza from the Little Italy area. Lombardi's came highly recommended
and certainly lived up to its praise!
|

On Wednesday afternoon we visited and toured the United Nations building.
Ididn't have time to wait for these hedge-trimmers to finish before I took
the picture. |

This is the Security Council chambers of the UN. The General Assembly rom
was closed for repairs so we couldn't see it this trip.

Our wonderful UN tour guide, from the African nation of Ghana (as is the
Secretary-General).
|

Thursday morning we went in search of the Ed Sullivan Theater, home of Late
Night with David Letterman. Here's Erin on the phone that Dave so often
calls. |

Next we visited the Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium.
Awesome!
|
No.2 on our culinary list was street-vendor hot dogs. And we found some
great ones outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
|
We finally met up with our dear friend Elaine, who had just returned from
4 days in the Domincan Republic, vacationing with some friends. She picked
out this wonderful Italian restaurant, Ralph's.
|
This is the Lunt-Fontanne Theater where we saw Disney's Beauty & the
Beast. The kids really enjoyed this show!
|

Friday morning we got up early (well, early for this crowd) and headed for
Rockefeller Center to see the Today Show. We had a blast, despite the drizzle.
This morning the Goo Goo Dolls were performing, but ended up playing inside
due to the rain.
