This cast statue of FDR's dog looked so much like Duncan we had to take
this shot!

In Annapolis, this skateboard shop had a bench in front made from a
snowboard!

Before dinner (Maryland crabcakes, yum!) we took a walk through the US Naval
Academy.
|
This is the interior of the US Naval Academy's chapel. John Paul Jones is
buried in a crypt beneath this church.
|

We arrived at Ft. McHenry near closing time and participated in the nightly
changing of the flags. Here we are folding up the replica of the Star Spangled
Banner that flies during the day. Notice it has 15 stars and 15 stripes.
|
Patrick was chosen to lower the replica flag and to raise this 50-star modern
flag that flies at night.
|
On Monday we toured the historical area of downtown Philly, including the
Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Franklin Square and Betsy Ross' house.
|

Mmmm, good! REAL Philly cheesesteaks at Gino's! I got mine "cheese
wiz, wit", Sally got "provolone, witout" and the kids got
"cheese whiz, witout" (that's wit or witout grilled onions).
|
Tuesday we drove to NYC and stayed in Manhattan, very near Madison Square
Garden, Pennsylvania Station, Macy's and the Empire State Building.
|
Here's the view from the top of the Empire St. Bldg, looking down at our
hotel, the New Yorker.
|

We used the subway as much as we could. We found them very clean and the
people actually polite and helpful. I even got asked for directions a couple
of times.

This sculpture, recovered from the WTC, is called "the Sphere"
and is now located at Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan island.
From here we took the Staten Island Ferry.
